The Great Book of Protective Blessings - The Maha Pirith Potha – (Piruwana Pothwahanse) was named as Chatubanawara (Satara Banawara) Pali by the Arahnts Sanagha during the Anuradhapura period is part of the sermons by Lord Buddha’s own words.
According to historical records Pirith was written in Ola leaves which includes four sections (Satara Banawara) of sermons. Later it is considered that some sections might have been added from Mahayana sector. However the original four sections of the Pirith Potha/Book which had been prepared with 8 letters in a line to 4 lines in all to be 32 letters of 1000 Gathas/Stanzas. Each section contains 8000 words and a total of 32000 words in the entire Pirith Potha of Satra Banawara.
